ECOYA’s candles are designed to deliver a luxurious sensory experience but safe burning is essential. Since candles are an open flame, they must always be treated with care and respect.

Below are ECOYA’s expert tips to ensure every burn is safe, even, and long lasting.

Before You Light – Wick Preparation

• Trim the wick before every burn including the very first. Keep it at approximately 6mm to prevent excessive flame size, soot, and heat.
• A wick that’s too long can “mushroom,” producing more smoke and shortening the candle’s lifespan.
• Use sharp wick trimmers or scissors to ensure a clean, even cut.

During the Burn – Time & Placement Matter

• Never burn your candle for more than three hours at a time. Excessive burn times can cause the glass vessel to overheat and reduce safety.
• All ECOYA candles are poured into annealed soda lime silicate glass, a material designed specifically for candle use — yet even this can become hot if overburned.
• Always burn on a stable, heat resistant surface, away from drafts, curtains, or flammable materials.
• If burning multiple candles, space them at least 10cm apart to prevent heat transfer.
• Never leave a burning candle unattended and always keep it away from pets and children.

Extinguishing Your Candle – Do It Safely

• Once 10mm (1cm) of wax remains, discontinue burning.
• ECOYA wicks are designed to self extinguish at around 10mm, but longer burn sessions can alter this safety feature.
• To extinguish, use a snuffer or blow gently to avoid wax splatter.
• Do not use liquid or the lid to put out the flame — lids are decorative, not snuffers.

After the Burn – Extend Candle Life

• Allow the wax to cool and harden before moving the candle.
• For best performance, burn your candle for at least one hour or until the wax pool reaches the edge of the vessel. This prevents tunnelling and ensures an even burn every time.
• Regular care leads to longer burn times and a cleaner, brighter flame.
